A
couple weeks ago, we decided to take on a 30 day "Fitbit" challenge
at Thought Ensemble. We thought it would be a fun way to stay connected
and encourage everyone to stay active during our crazy season. I have to
say, I've been very surprised by the change it has made to my lifestyle (and
our family's as a result!).
I
haven't been inclined to take on any major workout goals lately since I'm still
nursing a four month old. I'm not going to mess with that 500 calorie a
day burn to try to fit in more workouts; I can only handle so much right now.
But, I
thought the team building would be a fun challenge and I was curious about the
phenomenon of these little contraptions on people's wrists. My colleague
John, who is our Fitbit challenge coach, asked us all to set a daily goal.
I stuck with the "recommendation", which I figured was possibly
on the low end, but all things considered, something reasonable for me to take
on right now. So I'm committed to 10,000 steps a day, which is just under
5 miles. This is an easy goal to reach if you actually go exercise, but
it is very hard to achieve sitting at a desk all day.
I'm 8
days in and have hit the goal every day, often just a couple steps over as I
pace back and forth in my bedroom getting my last steps in before bed. I
love the simple lifestyle changes it has encouraged. I take more calls
while pacing outside. I've had meetings walking around the park. I
get out for an evening stroll with the kids after dinner. It is a great
balance to working from home!
